The gallery owner, Olivier Sultan, shocked by the absence of African photographers in Arles 50th Anniversary Photography Festival (Les Rencontres photographiques d’Arles), decided to organize a parallel exhibit.

« African photographers, absent from the « Rencontres d’Arles » photography festival ».  Published on May 10 in the “Le Monde Afrique” website, this article by Roxana Azimi was an “electroshock” for Olivier Sultan. This Parisian runs a gallery dedicated to African arts in the 11th arrondissement, where he is currently exhibiting Ivorian artist Mounou Désiré Koffi. As a « fan » of the Arles Photography Festival, he was so disturbed by the idea that no African photographer was on the bill for the 50th anniversary of the contemporary photography festival that he decided to mount a parallel exhibition…
